Frequently Asked Questions

What cake size should I order for my event?

The right cake size depends on your number of guests for your planned event and the shape and amount of tier for your chosen event. During the enquiry process I will advise you on the best size for your number of guests, depending on any preference of cake shape and design of the cake (single tier vs. multiple tier). Here is a general guide to cake sizes and portions:

Single Tiered Cakes:
Bento Cake (4 inch 2 layer cake): feeds up to 4 guests
5 inch 4 layer cake: feeds up to 16 guests
6 inch 4 layer cake: feeds up to 24 guests
8 inch 4 layer cake: feeds up to 48 guests

Multiple tiered Cakes:
Small 2 tier (6 inch + 4 inch): feeds up to 35-40 guests
Medium 2 tier (7 inch + 5 inch): feeds up to 55-60 guests
Large 2 tier (8 inch + 6 inch): feeds up to 70-75 guests

What flavour do I order for my cake?

The flavour of your cake is totally up to you. You can mix and mix from the current flavour menu or tell me about the general flavour idea you would like to go for (classic, fruity, exotic) and I will advise you on some recommended flavour combinations. If you have a flavour in mind that is not currently listed on the menu, please feel free to reach out and I'm happy to accommodate where possible.

How much will a custom cake cost?

All cakes are made totally bespoke to your vision and event so every price is different depending on the chosen flavour, design and number of guests you would like to feed. The price reflects the price of ingredients, time, equipment and skill put into it and varies from cake to cake. The minimum order price for a custom cake from Marnie's Cakes is £75 (excluding Bento Cakes) for single tiered celebration cakes. You will be send a bespoke quote after details such as size, flavour and design have been finalised with the price for your bespoke cake.

What's the best way to cut the cake?

To get the most amount of slices out of your custom cake, the "Matrix" approach to cutting is recommended. This typically gives you two slices of cake layer and 1.5 layers of filling per cake slice. The week of collection you receive a cake cutting guide that visualises and recommend the most effective way of cutting your custom cake depending on the size and shape of it.

What is the ordering process like?

For custom occasion cakes, I will be in touch after the initial enquiry to discuss any details such as flavours, design and size of the cake as well as details such as delivery/collection. After details have been finalised you will receive a bespoke quote with the price of your custom cake. Once the quote has been accepted you will be sent an invoice with bank details for the deposit. All order require a 20% deposit to secure your spot in the diary. Once the deposit has been received you will get an order confirmation and your date in the diary is booked.
Marnie will then be in touch the week of collection/delivery to schedule a convenient time and send over some cake care and cutting details so that you can get the most out of your cake.
If you want to book a wedding cake with Marnie, the process varies slightly in times. I will be in touch a month before the wedding after the initial booking to discuss any details and get in touch with the venue to discuss delivery and cake care directly with them.
